Passport of Charles Augustus Collier, 1837 February 22.

Passport issued to Charles Augustus Collier and signed by United States Secretary of State John Forsyth. It contains a detailed description of Collier and requests all concerned to pass him safely and freely and "in case of need to give him all lawful aid and protection." The passport was in the possession of William K. Collier, a pioneer St. Paul druggist, at the time of his 1931 death.

John Forsyth (1780-1841) was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on October 22. He graduated from Princeton in 1799 and was admitted to the bar in 1802. In 1808, Forsyth became the Attorney-General of Georgia. He was elected governor of Georgia in 1828. He married Clara Meigs, daughter of Josiah Meigs, who was the first president of Franklin College (later named the University of Georgia). Forsyth died on October 21, 1841.
